Power Tuning is a procedure that Hypertech invented and developed to improve the performance and efficiency of computer-controlled vehicles. An internal combustion engine needs air, fuel, and spark the familiar "Combustion Triangle".  Hypertech Power Tuning optimizes these three elements to produce maximum performance. An engine's power output is directly proportional to the amount of air and fuel that it can burn. Hypertech Power Tuning maximizes engine performance by burning the air/fuel mixture as efficiently as possible, thereby extracting maximum power. Power Tuning replaces the stock calibrations in the onboard computers used in late-model cars and trucks. These complex programs control important engine functions such as spark timing and fuel delivery.

Increasing horsepower and torque is as simple as pushing a button with Hypertech's Power Programmer III! Simply plug the Power Programmer into the underdash diagnostic plug, answer a series of "Yes/No" questions, and the Power Programmer does the rest. The Power Programmer is much more than a tuning chip. It is a self-contained automotive tuning computer!

When you connect the Power Programmer to your vehicle, its "smart" program instantly recognizes your vehicle's powertrain by reading the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). The VIN contains specific information on the engine, transmission, and drivetrain, which the Power Programmer decodes before it downloads the Power Tuning program that is precisely tailored to your car or truck.

The Power Programmer lets you choose Hypertech's Power Tuning program for regular 87 octane or premium 93 octane gasoline. Both options improve performance without detonation. After the tuning program is selected, the Programmer automatically installs the program and allows you to access and reprogram the vehicle's computer to function properly with aftermarket components such as non-stock tire sizes and rear-end gear ratios.

The Power Programmer is incredibly powerful, but it is also incredibly easy to use. Reprogramming does not require any tools or knowledge of cars or even computers. Plus, you can return to OEM (stock) programming in just minutes.

Hypertech Power Chips are direct replacements for the stock chips in 1981-1995 GM vehicles. The Power Chip contains the Hypertech Power Tuning data that controls the engine's air/fuel ratio and spark advance. Power Chips can be installed in less than 30 minutes using only hand tools. No wiring or soldering is required - just plug in and go! Street Runner and ThermoMaster chips both contain Hypertech Power Tuning programs. ThermoMasters contain special programming that allows the use of a 160-degree or 180-degree thermostat. If you can't or don't want to change the thermostat, then use the Street Runner.

Street Runner Power Chip
The Street Runner Power Chip is designed for daily street driving or competition in unmodified vehicles using a stock thermostat. The Street Runner Power Chip contains Hypertech's powerful engine tuning information to deliver maximum power at full throttle (with increased boost pressures on turbocharged cars). The Street Runner also raises RPM for torque converter lock-up, producing better driveability and smoother shifting. Mileage and emissions during ordinary daily driving are not affected. The Street Runner Power Chip puts fun and excitement in your driving and gives you the extra power you need for passing, pulling, or maneuvering out of a tight situation.

ThermoMaster Power Chip
The ThermoMaster Power Chip, used in conjunction with a low-temperature PowerStat thermostat, is the most powerful chip you can run on the street. The ThermoMaster not only provides maximum performance, but it will also help keep the engine cooler in situations of extreme heat such as emergency vehicles, desert driving, competition, etc. Cool air has more air molecules per cubic inch than hot air. An engine running in cool, dense air produces more horsepower and is less likely to detonate than an engine that is taking in hot air.

The Hypertech PowerStat thermostat lowers both the temperature of the incoming air/fuel mixture and the engine coolant temperature. The ThermoMaster Power Chip is programmed to take advantage of this cooler, more powerful air/fuel mixture produced by the Powerstat. All temperature-sensitive functions controlled by the ThermoMaster chip (such as a minimum temperature for torque converter lock-up, closed loop operation, and in some cars, early fan turn-on) are adjusted for a cooler temperature thermostat. The Hypertech PowerStat is specifically designed for use with the Thermomaster Power Chip.

Power Coils, Caps and Rotors

Any time you increase the voltage output of your vehicle's coil you can expect to see more power and in most cases better fuel economy. The coil works in combination with your spark plugs to allow more spark energy into the combustion chambers of your engine. This allows better fuel burn and increased power. Hypertech's Power Coil is capable of firing a street or slightly modified engine up to 7000 RPMs. Voltage gain over stock can exceed up to 57% more output depending on application. Stock coils usually average around 36,000 volts as compared to Hypertech's coil kits that average between 45,000 and 55,000. Our coil kits include coil, brass terminals, cap and rotor. Nylon rotor hold-down screws are included to prevent misfire and our caps are made of high dielectric material to prevent carbon tracking. Each cap fits the distributor housing tightly to eliminate leakage. Installation is easy and no modifications are required.
